South Bay Boardriders
The South Bay Boardrider’s Club (SBBC) is dedicated to celebrating the rich history of the South Bay surfing culture, introducing families, youth, and our community to all aspects of ocean activities, and being guardians of our local shoreline. “Fun” is central to who we are.
In order to celebrate the rich history of the South Bay surfing culture, it is important to support the compilation and archiving of that history, along with the history of surfing as a whole. There is no better source of information regarding surfing’s history than the Encyclopedia of Surfing (EOS), https://encyclopediaofsurfing.com/, created by former Manhattan Beach resident Matt Warshaw. SBBC has committed to providing financial support to this treasured resource on an annual basis, and as a result, SBBC members gain a free subscription to EOS.
Many longtime and/or new residents in the South Bay have only experienced a handful of ocean activities, if any, that are available to residents of all ages willing to try. In addition to surfing related events, SBBC provides opportunities to the community that introduces them to various ocean/beach activities, such as:
- Scuba diving
- Outrigger canoe paddling
- Deep Sea fishing
- Grom-O-Rama ( a multi-event day at the beach for ages 13 and under)
It is our belief that when more individuals experience and enjoy what Mother Ocean has to offer, it encourages those people to become guardians of their shoreline and modify their lifestyles to minimize their impact on the health of our beaches and ocean.
Finally, SBBC educates its members and community about volunteer and participation opportunities at the beach that support other non-profit organizations, and makes a difference in the lives of others:
- The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation
- PS I Love You Foundation
- Surfriders Foundation
- Heal the Bay
