Guardians of Our Shoreline
The South Bay Boardrider’s Club (SBBC) has put in place efforts to be “the guardians of our shoreline” and to show younger generation by example what that entails. Through the leadership of Board member Dan Ryan, the club has replaced plastic water bottles with reusable water bottles at South Bay Surf Series contests. SBBC member Mark Cole and local outdoor apparel company Hippy Tree provide drinking water for the daylong surf series events. We also adopted Bruce’s Beach (26th Street, Manhattan Beach) through Heal the Bay’s Adopt-a-Beach program, and hold beach clean-ups 2-3 times per year collecting nearly 3000 pieces of trash each clean-up effort.
SBBC has also launched the Pints Above Plastics fundraiser to bring awareness of the problem of single use plastics in our environment. This will be fun, and social fundraising event held at Watermans Safehouse in Hermosa Beach. (Feb. 24th, 2-6pm) Buy a pint glass to take home with you and get a free beer. Proceeds go to the South Bay Boardriders Club.
